A jihadi boasted on his Telegram Messenger account about confiscating an assault riffle that he alleged was given to the Free Syrian Army by Israel and taken by the Islamic State in battle:
“A customised AK47 made in Israel. Given to FSA as a gift. Taken by Dawlah (the State) as Ghaneemah (spoils.) Jihad is so fun alhamdulillaah. Go around killing kafirs (non-Muslim) taking their stuff. It’s a dream job, lol.”
Abu Sa-eed Al-Britani, 27, a British Jihadi named Omar Hussain from High Wycombe in the U.K., also known as the “Supermarket Jihadi,” because he used to work in the British supermarket Morrisons, left Europe in January 2014 to go fight in Syria, he wrote about his Jihadi journey.
Al-Britani left Al-Nusra, the Al Qaeda branch in Syria, and details why he had a change of heart in a document read by The Foreign Desk called, “Why I Left Jabhat An-Nusrah.”
The weapon he references in the photo was manufactured by FAB Defense, a weapons supplier based in Israel with 43 global distributors spread over six continents.
FAB Defense states on its site that it “manufactures MIL-SPEC equipment used by the Israeli Defense Forces and other militaries worldwide.”
In a March 2015 report to the United Nations, peacekeepers referenced several meetings along the border between armed Syrian rebels and Israeli soldiers, where they say they witnessed Israelis take injured Syrians to be treated in hospitals in northern Israel.
Peacekeepers also say they saw Israelis supply Syrians with food, blankets and sacks of supplies, but it remains unclear what was in those sacks.
The U.N. report does not detail which rebel group the Israelis were helping. As is often the case with Syria, it is difficult to detect who the rebels are in each area.
Al-Britani gained notoriety over the last few months when he began posting rants complaining about the poor etiquette of his Jihadi brothers, mentioning how they speak loudly when he is trying to sleep, steal his shoes and take his mobile out of the charger to charge their own phones.
He also has appeared in ISIS videos speaking English with a British accent, calling all Muslims to arm themselves and fight in global Jihad.
Al-Britani created the Telegram Messenger channel just a few days ago on December 11, with the opening statement:
“This channel is run by myself and InshaaAllaah I’ll be using this to upload my latest articles, as well as pictures of sham and maybe small reminders InshaaAllaah.”
The channel already has close to 800 followers, but many of his posts are getting close to 1,000 views.
He also links to a Tumblr account, which now appears to have been taken down.
Some of his other posts include everyday photos of the Caliphate, food, shops and book recommendations. In one post, he talks about how cold winter will be this year, asking his followers to send money for him to buy a heater.
There are also several disturbing photos of cats strapped with explosives.
