Iranian regime officials arrested seven fashion models over the last week or so, according to Iranwire.
According to unconfirmed reports on social media, of the seven models, six were women and all had shared photographs of themselves without Islamic headscarf on their Instagram accounts.
The models have been named as Melikaa Zamani, Niloofar Behboudi, Donya Moghadam, Dana Nik, Shabnam Molavi, Elnaz Golrokh and Hamid Fadaei.
Authorities may have made the arrests based on the models’ social media accounts and photographs, some of which have since been removed, but these individuals may also have come under government detection because of their popularity and fame among young people online.
While Iran’s government enforces strict Islamic law, many Iranian people, particularly among the country’s overwhelming youth population seek out Western culture, including fashion, beauty and technology.
New reports today indicated that more models have been arrested, although this has not yet been confirmed.
